Sports Rotation

What a beautiful day for sports rotations!

Every Tuesday we have Sports Rotations in the afternoon block. During this time we have professional coaches and our own student Sports Coaches take us for a variety of sports. They teach us the basic skills of their sport and we get to play fun games. It is an awesome opportunity for us to try new sports!

This term we are playing Badminton, Football, Hockey, Golf, Tennis, Basketball, Games and Circuits.

At Badminton we learned the backhand and forehand lift. This is our amazing coach Sandra modelling the forehand lift with the racquet leg forward and Spiderman wrist.

Impact Project Practice Pitch

In Term 2 we are getting the opportunity to do an Impact Project. Before we can start we have to 'pitch' our idea for an Impact Project to our teachers (like Dragons Den). As we have never had to 'pitch' an idea before we got to practice in groups.

Firstly we watched a video of Mr R pitching his idea for an Impact Project. Whilst it was funny it modelled for us how to 'pitch' an idea.

Then we watched a video about Keoni following his Moonshot through from start to finish. It was really interesting watching the process and it highlighted how his project has an impact (there are more resources about the Impact Project at the top of our blog).

Then we brainstormed some problems within our class and got into small groups to come up with Moonshot solutions for them. We then put together our pitch and practised it before we got to pitch it to our class and teachers. Then they asked us questions and gave us feedback.

ePro8 Semi-finals

After the triumph of making the Regional Semi-finals CSNS Lads and CSNS Trial & Error had a 3 hour training session on the last Sunday of the holidays. We started off by doing some collaboration team building challenges, including the Human Knot and Pass the Hula Hoop. These were a lot of fun and forced us to work together, we even held hands!

Then we had two and half hours of challenges, which simulated the EPro8 Challenge. The challenges were hard but both teams managed to complete at least one task.

 As we entered the PNINS Hall we were all excited! The hall was set up with 16 stations and all the other schools were looking through the stations to see what they could use to solve the challenges. After Kelvin gave the instructions we were off. Both teams managed to rack some points by completing some of the challenges.

With 20 minutes to go CSNS Trial & Error were leading and CSNS Lads were in 6th place. All of the stations were hectic with teams trying to complete their last tasks. In the end we had to wait until prize-giving to hear the final placings.

CSNS Trial & Error came 3rd overall and qualified for the Regional Finals. CSNS Lads came 7th place and were 20 points off making the top 5!

Breakout Edu

As part of building our COLAB Target we got to take part in a Breakout EDU. For most of us this was our second Breakout as we did one last year about Star Wars.

When we entered the Workshop we saw a screen with a Breakout EDU logo and sound blasting. There was lots of ANZAC related material on the walls so we quickly worked out what the Breakout was going to be about!

We had to work together to free Hohepa and Barry out of the basement of the Beehive. The clues were hard to crack but we persisted and slowly started to find keys and open locks.

The Breakout was a lot of fun and it definitely highlighted the importance of collaboration!

A few days later we got to do a Kahoot on the history of the ANZAC's! This showed us that we had learnt a lot. Some of us even beat the teachers!
